FAQs
All you need you knowA solid brass pen with a magnetic locking cap. The cap snaps into place — no click, no twist, no rattle in the pocket.
The Royal Black Magnetic Brass Pen is FountainEarth's matt black brass roller-ball, weighted to feel like a fountain pen but built for daily use. The cap holds with a magnet rather than a thread or click — quieter and faster than either. Refillable with the Schmidt German non-dry blue cartridge, the same refill used in luxury German pen brands. Built for the desk where the pen is picked up fifty times a day and put down without ceremony.
How it is used
The pen for the working day that involves more writing than typing — and the meetings where the click of a ballpoint is the wrong sound.
- Solid brass body. Matt black finish on solid brass — weighted at 44 g so the pen carries itself across the page. Silver-toned accents on the clip and the cap ring.
- Magnetic locking cap. The cap snaps into place with a hidden magnet — silent, fast, and impossible to mis-close. Posts on the back of the pen the same way.
- Schmidt German refill. Ships with a Schmidt non-dry roller-ball cartridge in blue ink — the same refill format used by luxury German pen brands. Available at any stationery store that stocks Schmidt refills.
- 14 cm length, 1.1 cm barrel. Standard adult-hand proportions; sits comfortably with the cap posted.
- Ships gift-ready. Every pen ships in the FountainEarth signature gift box — sleeve closure, foiled wordmark. No additional wrapping needed.
For a uniform-tone gunmetal alternative in the same brass body, see the Gunmetal Diamond-Cut Brass Pen. For the patterned variation, see the Rare Marble Finish Brass Pen.
Made in Bharat at our Delhi workshop
FountainEarth is a Made-in-Bharat brand. The brass body is contract manufactured to our specifications at a facility that has produced brass pens for the German luxury market for over two decades. The matt black finish, the magnetic cap mechanism, and the silver-toned accents are quality-checked at our Delhi workshop before each pen ships. Fountain Earth's catalogue stays small by choice: six brass pens total, each with a single deliberate design idea.
The Schmidt German blue ink in the shipped refill is engineered to write smoothly for around 1,500 metres of writing — roughly 8–10 weeks of daily note-taking — before the cartridge needs replacing. Refills are available at any stationery store stocking Schmidt refills, on Amazon India, at William Penn, or direct from FountainEarth; specify "Schmidt German roller-ball refill, blue" when buying.
How to care for the pen:
- Wipe occasionally with a soft dry cloth. No chemical cleaners.
- Store in the FountainEarth gift box between heavy use, or any soft cloth pouch.
- When the cartridge runs dry, unscrew the rear barrel, slide the old refill out, slide the new Schmidt refill in, and screw the barrel back on.
- The magnetic cap holds best when the brass is clean — wipe off ink residue from the body before posting.
Every pen carries a 1-Year Warranty. The warranty covers material and craftsmanship defects in the first year — the magnetic cap mechanism, the threading, the finish. If you need a replacement after very long use or accidental damage, write to support@fountainearth.com for a quote — replacement component charged at the time of repair, no labour charge.
Frequently asked questions
How does the magnetic cap work, and will it hold?
A magnet inside the cap snaps to a metal ring at the top of the pen body. The hold is firm — strong enough that the cap won't loosen in a bag or pocket, even with a sharp shake. To uncap, pull straight up; the magnet releases cleanly. The cap posts the same way on the back of the pen for writing.
What refill does it use, and where can I buy them?
The pen uses the Schmidt German roller-ball refill in blue ink — the same refill format used by luxury German pen brands. Schmidt refills are NOT compatible with standard G2-format pens; they are a separate proprietary format. Refills are available at any stationery store that stocks Schmidt refills, online at Amazon India or William Penn, or directly from support@fountainearth.com. Specify "Schmidt German roller-ball refill, blue" when buying.
Is the silver finish on the accents plated?
Yes. The clip and cap ring are solid zinc alloy with industrial-grade silver-toned plating, engineered for years of normal daily use. The main pen body is solid brass — the matt black finish is part of the brass treatment, not a separate coating.
Is FountainEarth the same as Fountain Earth?
Yes. Same brand, same workshop. FountainEarth is the compound brand mark; Fountain Earth is the spaced form we use in legal and trade contexts.
Is this a fountain pen?
No — it's a roller-ball pen with a fountain-pen weight. The Schmidt non-dry roller-ball cartridge gives the smooth ink flow of a fountain pen with the dry-time and refill-ease of a ballpoint. Best of both formats for daily use.
Does it come gift-ready?
Yes. Every pen ships in the FountainEarth signature gift box — sleeve closure, foiled with the brand wordmark. Suitable for gifting without extra wrapping. For corporate orders we have two tiers: plain corporate orders start at a 10-unit minimum; custom-branded orders (gift box co-branding, engraving) start at a 25-unit minimum, with a typical 4–5 week turnaround.
